Yeah I wasted my time on that a few years back. But now all the restaurants caught on and now charge for the waste oil so that by the time you clean it up it cost more than dino diesel. The oil now goes to the highest bidder.

It's not a waste of time. I've had three vehicles that drive on vegetable oil. A 35 foot bus, a 1985 mercedes, and a 2003 Jetta. It's not a waste of time. I get my oil for free but I'm not doing it for the money. Waste vegetable oil doesn't contain fossil fuels and is carbon neutral. It's locally produced. It's a waste product too, so it's a form of recycling.

I live in an area where many people are competing to get free waste oil but if you try hard you can still find it. I think in just about any place you can find it. Large cities are oozing with waste vegetable oil and many restaurants still pay to have it collected. Right now I have more than I need and I know several people with hundreds of gallons who would share.

If you think it costs more to run on vegetable oil than dino diesel, maybe you need to put new batteries in your calculator. Even if you pay $1 for the dirty oil, there is virtually no cost to clean it up. I don't know about you but I'm seeing dino diesel for $4 gal at the pump. Are you saying it costs you $3 to clean up a gallon of dirty vegetable oil? Something's not right there.

It's not a waste of time. There are still millions of gallons of waste oil being improperly disposed of, or collected and used by rendering plants every year, that could instead be offsetting the use of greenhouse gas causing fossil fuels.

I would like to encourage people to not use BP Solar panels anymore. What they have done in the Gulf is so horrendous, there is no excuse, and we are going to be living with this for decades. It was not an honest mistake, there was clear negligence, all in the name of maximixing profits and minimizing safety.

Buying BP solar panels might be a bad investment anyway. Hopefully at some point they will go bankrupt, or at least their assests will be seized by the government to help pay back the communities who will be living with this. If anything like that happens, the warranty on your panels will be as good as gone, along with the scores of sea creatures who have already died and continue to die each day.

Boycott BP Solar... to protect your investment, and to know you're not supporting a horrible company who has created the largest environmental disaster in the history of our country.

There are plenty of other companies to buy solar panels from.

The article states 5 human errors and a colossal mechanical failure were the cause.

Hard to understand that conclusion.
1) The big problem was a culture of 'we'll get away with it' within the BP organization
2) The BP people felt there was no downside to them personally so 'go for it!'
3) Zero teeth in the feds oversight. The rules are there for a reason and they are there to enforce them - not to decide if they apply or not.
4) Mechanical failure - not really as the unit was not tested as required or repaired as should have been - the unit functioned as well as might be expected when people don't care for it.

There should be criminal penalties for absolute screwups like this. These guys including the little twerp running the show could care less as long as their backside is not on the line.

Same type of thing with the financial meltdown - the big boys were not worried at all - not their money to be lost and they made their fortunes off the whole thing.

It looks like the spill is resulting in a lot of new knowledge of oceanic microbiology. It is somewhat ironic that this kind of work can not get funding unless there is a disaster or some other commercial need.

Pushing back the frontiers of knowledge is hard work. It takes a lot of creativity and dedication. The authors of the study cited in the link given would probably all characterize themselves as "green" or "environmentalists"

The folks at WHOI (who-ee) have been doing it right for years. Check our their web site for a balanced view. They found "the plume" but did not find the bacteria. It took some biologists from the land of fruits and nuts to do that. Despite the good news, they, and we still don't know more than we do know about this oil spill. Stay tuned!

This news is really starting to piss-off Environmentalism. There disaster they had been waiting on is just not working out like the hoped, it just keeps getting worse everyday knowing there just might be a real God out there looking out for us.
