Installed.
To update. Due to being in contract and the possible delay...I went ahead with the install. I did however manage some last minute negotiations and the company did try to appease with upgraded panels.
So my system is:
16 x LG270W panels with M315 Enphase microinverters. All installed in one day. This bumped me up a bit to 4.32kW.
To recap. (19140-1850)/4320 = $4/W.
To everyone that offered help and advice, thank you. I could have fought it, but I figured I'd just eat it and avoid the headache. ...at least I get a bigger tax credit to use over the next 2 tax seasons, right?
Anywho, from what I read and hear, I didn't get a horrible deal, but I also didn't get the best. If only I'd found this site when I was shopping...
Pics next. It's a clean install and went up in one day.Comment

I've had quotes for the panel upgrade and they seem to average about $1800 with permits, so I figure my bottom line is $17,340 for a 4kW system. Installed with an installation warranty. That puts me at $4.34/kW and they dropped their price after one of my bids was the same cost as the original bid.DIY 7.3 kW "I COUNT NONE BUT SUNNY HOURS"Comment

Still waiting for the SDGE inspection to turn it on.
Anyone know what the boxes are on the power lines in from the street?
Also, I hear rumors that CA will soon be allowed to disconnect from the grid. Additional permitting for the cities and power companies, I would assume.Comment

Did you mean to say CA will want to become totally isolated from the rest of the US/Canada power grid by "disconnecting" from it?
More than likely those Utilities in other stats that now supply CA with power will continue to raise their rates and if CA balks at paying they may disconnect you.Comment

It is possible to do anything you want. The only thing is: does it worth it or needed itComment

No.
In CA, residential homes with solar are not allowed to disconnect from the grid. In the case of a blackout, if you have solar you still lose power, along with non-solar homes.
Last Sunday, my neighborhood lost power for 6 hours (approximately 1300-1900). Even if my solar was up and running then, I would have had no power.Comment

4kw system
A neighbor just had a 4kw residential system installed (actually 4080 watts) here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for $4.08/watt. That figure is BEFORE rebates, discounts and Federal tax credits. Panels were made by Kyocera .....Comment
