Ok so my next q is would a quality MPPT controller be more reliable than the elcheapo that is supplied with panel I think it is called a sun lite Chinese made? I was thinking a victron 75/15 ?

It is not a safe or practical way to light up an AC bulb directly using a battery.

In theory (Lab) the bulb does not know if its ac or dc. But the big question where do you get a Incandescent Bulb.
And yes bulb was always dangerous with filament running at 2500 deg C

200/12 = 16.6 ?

Not really. The amount of amps the panel can produce at it's higher peak is usually the Imp rating.

Typically a 200watt panel would have a Vmp ~ 18 - 19volts which would make the Imp ~ 11amps (200w / 18v = 11.1amps) at best but more likely about 10amps tops.

I have a 50w DC light that I am looking to power for 12 hours a day. It has a voltage regulator on it to help manage the power consumption/brightness. I am hoping to fine tune the battery/panel power this way.

You will also need to look into a second 200w panel because only 1 will not provide the 12 to 13amps for charging your battery properly.
