I was listening into a conversation at the weekend where the guy was talking about some new saline battery solution that is set to revolutionize the solar industry as an energy storage device. Many times better than all present battery technology. I felt I didn't know enough about battery storage solutions to join in the conversation, but does anyone know what the hell he was talking about?? or had he been smoking something? or is there indeed some wonder solution just around the corner. Is this a fuel cell? He said it's also being used in a new supercar. Anyone point me in the right direction to read up on this technology?

He was most likely talking about Aquion. You can search other posts here for debates about the pros and cons of it. Not so sure about it being used in a car...Solar Queen

20 wh/Kg and max C-Rate of C/6 for a car is some really funny stuff. They must live in Colorado smoking Sour Diesel.

The saline part sounds like Aquion, but if so I don't see how it could be marketed for anything that is defined as a "supercar". The energy density is low and it has higher internal resistance than other chemistries. It would be a good way to transform a Tesla into a vintage Volkwagen bus.

Is that right? I guess that was in the spitball and pencil on napkins stage of development.Comment

The thing is I have not been able to find a price on any of their systems which tells me that are not cheap.Comment

Although Off Topic, there is another company that makes modular solar/wind turbine systems called SolarMill. They have a few installed in the US but many more in the Caribbean.

The 40 unit can produce 2100w base, 4000w rated and 7500w max for $29,900.
Pretty costly to me.
They also mention some kind of battery to store energy.Comment

Here's the article about WindStax and Aquion partnering up. Makes sense, they are both in Pittsburg. http://www.prunderground.com/windsta...stems/0052459/
But I agree wholeheartedly with Russ, without independent certification from someone like Small Wind Certification Council, I don't believe a word of what they say.Solar Queen

of 'Salt' batteries later this year (they claim).
Wonder how 'TopCat' in Hawaii is doing with his 9 bedroom
Aquion Energy
Battery experiment.
Is it true that you NEVER have to fool with or add to the electrolyte ?
Do they need an old Aquion Shill in the Islands ?
