What is your ROI if you invest nothing?

I am new to this forum and this is the 1st topic I checked out...

When it comes to "investing" in solar, most people do not have the capital($30-$50K). What I am recommending, if they are serious about renewable energy solutions, is that they look into the PPA's. About 20% of homes in Massachusetts would qualify for a low to zero upfront investment.

They then buy the power from the system at a 10-50% discount from what they are paying now. Also, there are no surprise price hikes. You know exactly what you are going to pay for electricity over the term of the agreement.

    Does that make sense?

They are called Power Purchase agreements. There are several companies that provide the opportunity.
Here is a video on how they work:

          PPA's not for everyone

          Russ,

PPA's are not for everyone though. Some people want to get all the incentives, rebates, REC's ...Looking at it more of an investment. For that segment, (minority in this economy) . Buy a system outright would be best.

Just saw that you have other posts on this topic...So this is not news to you.

I knew what a PPA was long before I started following solar. The term is a basic part of the power generating industry.

So you are proposing everyone sign on to let the leasing companies rape the taxpayer?

Fortunately many of the state programs are withering due to lack of funds. The feds are
slower to figure out that borrowing money from China to give away is not smart or good business.

I agree with you, borrowing money from China is just dumb...Maybe if the Criminals is Washington would just balance the books starting with the ridicules perks and pensions they get, us tax payers wouldn't feel we are getting the shaft all the time.

If you read my post, I didn't say everyone should enter into a PPA . The stimulus money is there to promote the industry. If a homeowner or business can afford to purchase the system, go for it!
