Where are @Sunking and @J.P.M.?
We need some more negative EV sentiment.

What I have are frustrating thoughts about someone that feels gasoline profits go to terrorism against the US and that all EV batteries are made in the US. I think someone has drunk the cool aid.
And that is my last post on this thread so enjoy.Comment

I really do not have any negative thoughts concerning EV's. I am looking forward to getting one some day in the future.

Thank you for what is obviously your deep concern as to my whereabouts.
Allow me in a spurt of Christian charity to sooth your concerns for my welfare.
I just returned from my yearly summer sojourn to Death Valley and other desert locations.
But I'm curious: What have I written that makes you think I'm anti EV ? Like those who seem to believe I'm anti alternate energy - maybe because I see the limitations as well as the real possibilities through something other than rose colored glasses - those characterizations couldn't be further from the truth. As a point of fact, I left a financially successful career as a peddler of industrial process equipment and became a mechanical engineer initially because of an interest in solar and alternate energy about 45 or so years ago. It changed my life, I believe for the better.
Now, as a retired P.E., I just know a lot more about more aspects of either subject than you or a lot of other folks of the type who, IMO only, do more harm than good about the prospects for improving the human condition through sane and reality based implementation of new energy technologies.
Perhaps you characterize my opinions as negative because you think you disagree with them, or they are sometimes contrary to your reality, or you don't fully understand the subjects' plusses and minuses or finer points.
Whatever the reason(s), you and you fanboy blowhard ilk are little better than shills for the conmen that prey on the ignorance of folks who drink the kool-aid the conmen serve up.
BTW (and having more time than money and more money than brains at this stage of life), I'm still waiting to get my ticket punched for the Taycan I mentioned several months ago.
I'm out of this thread. If you respond, others besides me will be reading it.Comment

The irony I see is in buses in Rockford, IL. At the beginning of the 20th century we had electric
trollies, which got their power from a massive, very ugly network of overhead wires, DC I suppose
from a motor generator set. By the 50s the trollies on rails were gone, but there were buses still
using those overhead lines for power. By the 21st century the overhead lines were gone, the buses
were powered by IC engines. Now we are trying to find a good way to convert them back to electric.
Short range buses and delivery vehicles seem like the best early aps of EV technology. A problem
might be that they are so busy, there is no time for recharging.

Historically I have been a big fan of public transportation but Covid may cause people to rethink that. I anticipate a big disruption there that I did not see six months ago.9 kW solar, 42kWh LFP storage. EV owner since 2012Comment

Not all large multi-national corporation which are based in Japan produce their products in Japan, some of their factories are outside of Japan. Specifically, Panasonic invested. $1.6 billion dollars in Tesla's Nevada gigafactory to make their battery cells in that Nevada Plant.
It’s pretty impressive to see a “fully automated factory” with 10,000 workers

I was fortunate enough to have a private tour of the Tesla Gigafactory in Sparks Nevada. Panasonic has one end of the building to build cells. In the other end of the building TESLA assemblies the car battery assemblies, PowerWalls, PowerPacks, & MegaPacks along with the motor assemblies for it’s cars. I have a Model 3 which is bee trouble free for 40,000 miles

I also have a Model 3 which is 14 months old and has had 22k trouble free miles. Since i have been driving EVs for a long time i have forgotten any range anxiety i may have had. Fortunately the Tesla Supercharger network keeps expanding. My wife has memorized all the Superchargers near Target or Marsalls. She has no range Anxiety either.
I only have the auto pilot, not full self driving. It stays in a lane on the freeway and makes drives to LA more relaxing. Also in slow moving stop and go traffic it reduces stress.9 kW solar, 42kWh LFP storage. EV owner since 2012Comment

Apparently my car is uploading data to the data base even when I am not on auto pilot. One report I read, said that Tesla has over a billion miles of data and it is growing every day. I do enjoy the warnings about cars decelerating in front of me. That split second of time has may have avoided a sudden stop. That warning is user adjustable.9 kW solar, 42kWh LFP storage. I do not know how long that will take. Economically the transportation industry wants something like that.
