Can I use an uninterrupted power supply (UPS)to trick my grid tie inverter continue to work during power outage or off line? Will the inverter blowout my UPS?

Simple a GT Inverter is a current source, and designed to pump power into a very low impedance of the grid. Its power must go somewhere, or die trying. You home wiring system and what is connected to it does not have a low enough impedance to satisfy the Inverter, and its voltage ewould spike indicating there is no Grid Available and shut down like it was designed to do.

Longer answer - you can do it if you use the right equipment. The right equipment is NOT a $99 UPS from Home Depot. It's a hybrid inverter that can handle AC coupling, like a Radian plus batteries plus a relay to prevent overcharge. You'd be looking at about $8000 for a system like that.Comment
