Best SunPower Panel Price in NorCal

Right now the best quote I got was $4.85/watt with the X21-335 in Northern California. Is anyone else in NorCal getting close or better pricing?

    Hi sa177,

Can you PM your vendor? All of mine are quite a bit higher? With a 7 KW system, I am about $5.20.

The E 21's are back ordered like 6 months unless your dealer has them in stock
Look at the 327's short wait and competitive pricing.

The sad thing is, I'm getting about the same prices for the X20-327's and the X21-335's/345's. The limiting factor is the time to wait for the new panels to get manufactured.

Would the recommendation be to use micro inverters if the final actually cost was within 5-10%. Somehow, the initial contract price is much higher, but they have some kind of rebate of $1500 plus they quote a much higher new home solar rebate or nearly $3000 more, and so with those two numbers of $4500, it about covers the micro inverters with the smaller panels. The panels were quoted as 250 and 230, but I can't seem to find the info on sunpower's web page. I just see 240.

Do you have a lot of shading issues with your new house? If you do not, I would skip on micro inverters. I think string inverters are fine if you do not have a lot of shading issues, but then again I'm a novice at all this research. I only see the 240's also, so I don't know where they are quoting you the 250s or the 230s. Ask for the module numbers for the panels and check them on this site: http://www.gosolarcalifornia.ca.gov/...pv_modules.php. This is the one for inverters: http://www.gosolarcalifornia.ca.gov/.../inverters.php. Why aren't they trying to sell you the newer models or at least the E20s?

I am going to get them to quote the other panels. They used the logic of the micro inverters last 50 yrs, they are more flexible, i.e. more expandable, higher output, etc. I don't believe I will have a shading issue. My neighbor's tree shouldn't impact me. That is what a couple of the guys have told me. I am still waiting for a couple of more quotes from different companies.

The hard thing with a new construction is that you don't know how much energy you'll use, so you'll have to estimate your usage and hopefully the system will meet that limit or close to it to knock down your electricity bill. I was interested in microinverters, but with my house, I have no shading issues and the max input/output on micro inverters are 250 watts. The SunPower panels will not work with these micro inverters. Definitely get more quotes and maybe you can get it installed before you move in or maybe right after. Hopefully these rebates for new construction solar aren't too specific on time.

Save yourself some serious money and go with LG panels. They will be available in 300 Watt panels in November if you are tight on roof space. Otherwise 260 Watt LG's are just fine. I have installed both Sunpower and LG, and the LG quality is as good as it gets. There are no six month backorder issues either.

50 year lifespan for micro-inverters? The company has only been around for 6 years, so how can they make such a claim? We are seeing 10% failure rates after 2-3 years, which is unacceptable. Stick with SMA and you will be a very happy customer.

I have gotten 2 more quotes, but they are all in the $5.41 range.

                            I am getting 21 x21-345 panels
                            sb7000 inverter
                            11,046 Kwh/yr

$39,224 inclusive, permit, labor, panels, etc

I get a NHSP - a new home rebate - hopefully, it will be funded when I apply.
I just found out I also get an employer rebate - a happy surprise
Of course, we all get the 30% tax credit

$22,457 - using a conserative rebate of $5,000 instead of the maximum available today.

Can you tell me which sunpower installer this is? Was the $4 range before incentives? So far, I've had ProVoltz, Clean Solar, Freedom Solar, and this other company give me quotations. Clean Solar is the best so far. The $ DC/Watt for my 3k KW system is about $3.70 /DC Watt AFTER incentives.
