Damn. That is sad to hear. I was hoping they would survive and find a viable storage system.

Kind of old news. They were in deep chit the day they opened for biz. 6 product revisions in 4 years signalled huge red flags. There batteries were crap. I am surprised they lasted as long as they did,. They should have went under after 1-year.

        Sunking,

The devil made you so hard on dem

How are the 24 Aquion AHI Batteries in Hawaii holding up ?

        Also
did you ever get a fix on Mike's NiFe Electrolyte
        and how it held up
        or didn't hold up ?

Heard ole 'Diamond' John Mario D'Angelo
        the NiFe salesman
        from BUF in Colorado retired.

Wonder if the AHI technology can make a come-back in new Chinese hands ?

        You could see the
'life on the farm - kind of laid back'
        attitude in the Pennsylvania
        Aquion Energy videos.

They really hung a job on the Taxpayers in PA.
        The devils.

Agreed, so old info that I believe they have restructured and are back in about a month. Maybe papa Bill Gates (original investor) decided to throw more money at it.
I'm liking what I'm reading about "flow" batteries (iron not vanadium) but as it stands now until musk ramps up the battery factory more, gotta say ALA (advanced lead acid) would be my choice.

The Internet claims that the Chinese were behind
scoffing them up for around a nickel on the dollar.

It may turn out to be a
            Doctor Napoleon Hill deal ...

'Stopping 3 feet short of Gold'
            for white-ie on this.
I have a feeling about the Technology
            getting wrapped into a
sensible Hybrid system that plays the strength
            of two systems working together
            to win.

            It's been there all along.

Those boys had to pump millions $ into a
335,000 square foot complex over that little bit
of nickel and dime output they did ?

            Please !

Run the World all the time
            talkin big jazz .....

yet none of their USA Distributors
            could get the da-n things
            most of the time.

            Please.

Watch this one come back to bite us.

              Some Historians claim that the
              Nickle Iron Battery
              was Thomas Edison's
              greatest financial success.

At about the same amount of time into their production not only was Edison still making changes to the NiFe Cells but he felt they needed so many improvements that he closed the whole da-n
Huge factory down for a few years.

              (Due to popular demand.)

              Can I get a witness.

Then in today's dollars they pumped yet
              more big money
              into research and development
              of the NiFe Cells
              for World War One
              years and years later.

More money than has been put into the
AHI Technology years and years later.

              Period.

The Start of WWI was around 13 years into the production of
              the NiFe Cells.

              Can I get a witness.

Mr. Edison never did stop messing with the
              Technology until his health failed.

They are still messing with it - big time -
over a hundred years after WWI started.
              (See Stanford University).

We really lost out when the
              Edison Submarine Battery Technology
              of WWI disappeared on us.

I'm confident that the Chinese are not fool enough to let this AHI Technology die.

It just has too much room for improvement.

If you do a breakdown of the strengths and weaknesses of different battery technologies
the marriage is right there to see.

              Not on it's own.

The sunlight has to be 'time machined'.
              Then cool and slow distribution.

              Used as an adjunct
              'collection' can also be
              cool and slow.

              'The Theory of Battery-tivity'.

Wonder which part of the cycle wears them out
                  the most.
                  Charge or discharge.
Or is it pretty even ?

                  Old Giant Battery considers even
                  Lunchtime Opportunity Charging
                  to be a cycle.
                  The devils.

2 sets of Solar Panels should be able to work together in a much smarter way the same as the
2 sets of batteries can be way smarter.

Say the adjunct set of batteries and panels at
33% or so of the size of the primary set.

However the support staff has 1000% greater flexibility as far as charge and discharge parameters.

Just needs to be cool and slow for many reasons.

The main bank does everything in a heated rush
                  but then gets
                  stroked and pampered.

                  Also helped out when overwhelmed.

Solar Energy not only 'banked' but
                  rerouted
from the adjunct bank during non-peak hours
                  when necessary.

They will have to develop some smart circuitry to
pamper the primary bank using smart panels and smart batteries.

It's all been holdin air too Long.

I've been using good primary batteries for 60 years.
Reinventing the wheel would be nice but they have always worked.

That last 20% of charge, anti-sulfation,
reserve for cloudy days, loss of capacity control,
                  increased longevity
                  and pampering in general
                  is what I'm talkin about.

Bill knowing who your are I assume this is lounge and cheek humor. This is no such thing as slow and cool charging using solar. But do not tell anyone that. They do not need to know Solar does not have the luxury of time to charge slow and cool. If the public knows that, the SCAM is exposed. That must be kept a secret. Sow and cool would be 20 hour charge rate, minimum for solar to just keep up is a 10 hour or faster rate. Oops!

I can testify. They were so popular Edison never renewed the Patent allowing anyone to make them. Last US manufacture stopped making them in the 70's. Only communist make them for ignorant Americans.

The only industries that used NiFe batteries were mining and railroad companies and they were a good fit for their niche applications. They were used for lighting in mines and railroad signal lights. They were grossly oversized so in the event of a mining accident or power failure along railroads the lighting could last for weeks. Just one little catch. NiFe batteries have extremely low Specific Power and horrible charge/discharge efficiency. Specific Power means how Fast/Slow they must be charged or discharged. Charge efficiency is just that at roughly 60% at best. Neither is a problem for mining or railroads where they could care less about efficiency or how much power cost as it was a safety issue. With 10 to 20 day reserve is SUPER SLOW CHARGING and DISCHARGING.

No where is what was so Brilliant about Edison's NiFe batteries. He developed them for Electric Vehicles. EV' were here long before gassers. Problem is EV's demand and require extremely high high Charge/Discharge rates, high specific power and end energy density. Too bad Nife does not have any of those characteristics and why the failed then and today. Not only are they poor batteries, they are expensive because they require very expensive Nickel Silver. Edison Battery Company went bankrupt. JP Morgan put Edison out of Biz and changed the name of Edison's company name of a little known company we call GE today. JP Morgan put Tesla, Westinghouse and Edison in their graves and owns most all their work and patents.

                        I'm not preaching NiFe.
                        Far from it.
It's a nasty, high maintenance technology.

The fact remains what the Edison Historians have said is what they said.
                        Mr. Edison died in 1931.
They are concerned with his days - not now
                        Or your view.

Your rules apply to old thinking and old ways.

An Adjunct support battery bank like AHI could be -
does not have to charge in one day.
2 to 4 days is just fine.
                        Like say twice per week.
                        Cool and slow.
                        Then discharge cool and slow.
                        Based on Timers with
Low Voltage overrides in case the
                        primary bank gets it trouble.

                        Give it another 5 - 10 years.
                        You'll see it.
Cuts the generator fuel way down as well.
                        Nobody is selling anything.

There is no silver involved in NiFe today.
However to be honest after solving the
100 year old riddle about NiFe -
                        I could actually care less
                        except for the history.

The NiFe experiments seem to drop off the
                        edge of the earth.

Now that is some funny stuff, I don't care who you are. You cannot discharge or charge them fast enough to be useful. Bet marketing did not advertise that point. However if you know about Internal Resistance and a thing or two about batteries, you would know they are not for solar or any Renewable Energy application. I bet owners wished they know that before buying them. Good thing they went bankrupt and did not have much in the way of sales. Not many people got hurt. Personally if I owned the product any I would file a Class Action Lawsuit and sue them out of existence to make sure they can never come back in any form and bury the technology never to see the light of day again. Only Chi-Coms and Ruskies could make them and look for pigeons to pluck while being untouchable by courts.

At 10 bucks a gallon you will see it clearly someday.

                            Look up adjunct.

                            It's a cool word.

                            Then look up primary.
