Thanks so much for the feedback. While the CTEK seems like an awesome device to charge the batteries either from solar or the vehicle alternator I am very hesitant at the limit of 300W solar and also the voltage issues mentioned. I am considering returning the CTEK and instead investing in a higher rated MPPT charge controller. Can you recommend one?

If I still wanted to charge the house batteries off the alternator would I use an "isolation solenoid"? Can you recommend one which can automatically charge the house batteries while driving when those house batteries are drained?

    Thank you.

I'd continue to use the CTEK as a "isolation solenoid" for the driving times.

For solar, I'd suggest any 30A rated charge controller.

Hook them both to the battery, park in full sunlight and enjoy.

I'm a total noobie about this. Can you break it down for me and/or help me with a diagram?

I am instead considering the purchase of the Renology Rover 40A MPPT and wiring in an isolater to allow for charging from the vehicle alternator. Do you think this is a good controller and the isolater is the right thing to do?
