You should test out your demonstration before hand so you don't get an F. If you try to power any loads larger than about 20 watts that inverter is going to shut down due to low voltage drop from that little battery. If you take 2Ah from that battery (run a 13W CFL light bulb for an hour), it'll take that panel a good day and a half to recharge the battery with good sun and proper sun angles.

I'd be careful about the message you convey here as your demonstration is beginning under false pretenses already (begin with battery fully charged by house AC powered charger and demo unsustainable load from same battery). You need to be sure to say that the solar panel didn't do a dang thing here. Don't make 30 other kids that "love PV power" by presenting misleading info (as has apparently been fed to you at some point).

The approach you have it's like you expect me to be at same level with you, I'm not, if by any chance I've asked some crazy stupid question, it's because I made a mistake asking something wrong, I'm new and I learn from mistakes and instead of showing how smart ass you are just help if you can. That's it. Thanks.

P.S. I'm not english native, maybe I could not express my thoughts exactly as I wanted. Not an excuse, but hopefully matters.

J.P.M. on this site has a great saying. Take what you want, scrap the rest. We generally don't use terms like "smart ass" here, though we may have one or two. I'd just stick with the constructive advice - everyone knows you are new to the subject - you aren't supposed to be an expert. If anything, these people are trying to help you come up with a successful project and not waste time on a approach that won't work. That's my read.

Your English is fine to me and I have nothing to gain whether your project is good or not, not my project grade. My point is that you have already admitted that you are going to present your super powered save the world project to your fellow classmates under false pretenses (battery charged from home AC and unsustainable load demonstration). I'm just appealing to you to tell the truth about it. I'm happy to help you design and present a realistic representation of the capabilities of a small off-grid system (charge a cell phone or weather radio, run a small LED of CFL bulb) but I'm not going to help you deceive 30 impressionable college kids into thinking they can run ANYTHING 220VAC from a 7AH battery and 5W panel. If they buy your demonstration you should switch your major to polisci.

I have to put together a small solar system for a college project. The thing is that I have solar cells with 3.65A and 0.6V. Now if I paralel two groups of two cells connected in series I will double the amps and volts. And the output power will be like 8W. The question is, do a 1.2V panel really work? Can I charge a 12V battery? I mean the panel will be 8W and high amperage low voltage. Do I need to have a minimum 12V panel to charge battery? This means I will have to put in series 20 cells to obtain 12V. Are there high voltage low amperage solar cells so I don't need to put together so many cells. I will greatly appreciate your answer.
