    Oz elec rates

I just read a thread elsewhere that in Australia, electric rates are .35/kWh but going to the .60s by 2017.

That doesn't sound good for their national economy, especially residents.

Good for Solar installers? Apparently, they allow net-metering with a FiT of .60/kWh now. But only up to 10KW max system size.

What is the reason for almost doubling the kwh rate? Do they fear oil costs will go crazy?

Still a horrible idea anyway you look at it. There is no justifiable reason to have that high of electric rates. Their prices are artificially inflated due to energy, environmental, and tax policy. Generation cost are less than $.05/Kwh and going down for the foreseeable future. Quite a few states in the USA have residential retail rates of less $.08/Kwh and the Power Company (POCO) is making a nice profit margins of some 30% and an ROI of 10% which is very fair.

Some areas, like Hawaii, have fuel transport costs that increase that number. I agree that even Hawaii's $.50/Kwh is in large part political surcharges on top of the higher generation cost though. Not sure what the fuel costs are in Australia currently, but I assume that they have ports that can handle large tankers.

Not too mention they have about 10 billion years worth of richest uranium deposits in the world. So much so and concentrated fuel cost are below $.01/Kwh. Guess what? The fools do not use it. Instead they mine and refine it to ship it out of their country to Japan, Russia, France, and China so those countries can put them out of biz with clean and dirt cheap energy cost.

Electricity is overpriced in Aus just like almost everything else
All fuel is grossly overpriced. gasoline/petrol is about $1.50 a litre and we have huge oil deposits.
Electricity feed in tariffs are dropping in most places now as governments realize its not supportable, but there have been some wins in some places for solar installers who convinced the govt to keep the "overpaying" high.

                              Examples of other overpriced things.
A certain brand and model of jeans from USA company sells here in department store for $150 . In USA dept store $80. .And in Philippines Dept store for $25.
Average music CD here costs $30..
                              Solar panels 225w about $900.
