I'm glad the price already reached as low as $2 NOW.
What about shipment cost?
Comparing to what can we say it's large?
I think many want to know further about this "new" panel.
At least we have 3 members from 3 different brands from China here as the new emerging manufacturers. Hopefully, all could give presentation on behalves each own brand.

$2.00 a watt is possible!!

I am currently buying 160watt panels for $2.00 a watt direct from China but they are 24volt output, will this be a problem for inverter and battery storage pricing??I live in Chicago and these panels are large 62" x 24"x3".

I don't want to sound like a very old man. Back in the early 80s. A solar panel was sold for $18.00 a watt. I do know this as a fact. There are many reasons why solar cost are going down. Quality, workmanship, cheep labor. Some companies get paid by their governments to export products. The longer you wait for the price to go down the longer you produce a carbon footprint.

Thin film or CIG panels can be sold at $2.00 a watt. You may not get that same power in 5 years because of the mylar materials and UV light damage. This has been proven time and time again. UV light destroys mylar materials and heat causes the materials to expand and cold causes the materials to contract. This will weaken the output of thin film solar products.

Every year, I read articles about breakthroughs that will make panels $2/watt. We won't be paying that type of price as of now, but I'm confident we'll see the price drop gradually, kind of like what we see happening to the price of computers. www.Solarbuzz.com has been tracking retail panel prices for several years now, and you can see that it's a little under $5 a watt, average, now.

I've spoke to people who work in the solar panel industry, and from what I understand we should be seeing solar panel prices drop to around $3 a watt by the end of 2009. The more they are in demand, the lower the prices drop.

Cann't agree more! It is still impossible to get the panel under $2/watt with UL. But around $3 a watt is more reasonable nowadays.

Note: The really cheap/watt panels are NOT UL listed. They are good for off-grid use only.
