Hi all,
I'm new to the forum but I've been visiting and learning from everyone on here for some time. I finally have my own solar system up and running, its not a real big system, just enough to power my shed lights and my landscape lights, but I love it!
My question is about a Low Voltage Cut-Off switch that I have. My landscape lights are timed to run 2 hours every night, but if we get a few cloudy days in a row, they will drain my battery further than I'd like, hence the switch. I haven't installed it yet because I'm unsure about a couple aspects of how it works. Its a 12V switch that will be connected directly to the battery and out to a realy that'll send power to my lights when closed. The specs say the switch is adjustable between 9V - 10V for a shut-off point. Even at the highest setting of 10V would be too low for my liking. I'd prefer if it shut off power when the battery gets down to around 12V. My question is, since the switch is a 12V switch and the shut-off settings are given assuming a 12V system, when hooked up to my system (which is initially 13.8V at night), does being hooked up to that higher voltage effect the setting for the shut-off point? Or does that not matter and if I set it for 10V it'll shut-off at 10V no matter what?
