An efficient solar panel is around 15% efficient. Efficient LED's used for home lighting are around 6% efficient. So to run a 100 watt panel and get 100 watts out of it at night you'd need around 11,000 watts of power to drive the LED's. -

No but I got a better idea I made millions selling plans for which I will now share with you for free.
Go to your local junk yard and find you a late model junker and get the electric window motor and alternator out of it. Then go to WalMart and buy you a car battery, water pump belt, and one of those 500 watt inverters you plug into a cigarette lighter.
Connect the battery to the motor a inverter. Fix a pulley on the motor to turn the alternator with the belt, and wire the alternator output back to the battery. Take the inverter output and connect it to your main breaker box. Turn it on and it will generate all the power you need. The motor will turn the alternator and keep the battery charged and provide power for the inverter. You will have to change the belt out once in a while as it wears out, and replace the motor and alternator once every few years, but they are cheap at the junk yard.

1. Run a light pipe capable of carrying the amount of sunlight required to some point in the opposite hemisphere where the sun will be shining.
or
2. Run the feed wires from a solar panel in opposite hemisphere to LEDs, so the LEDs will only be lit at night.

Sorry Inertcat I didnt think of either of those solutions. but have to admit technically both would be possible.
But to be honest I did think of one other posibility but didnt put it in print as it requires some mechanical skills that may be difficult for some..
My other idea was if the panels collect sunlight on one side in daytime mabe if they were undid from their mounting and turned them upside down mabe that side is receptive to moonlight.? I will check my Earth 4 energy or Home energy for $1 books and DVDs.Comment

And conversely, if you hooked LED's up backwards would they be able to make a solar panel out of them? Probably not in my lifetime.Comment
