    Solar panel damaging ??

Working on a system to charge bats on a boat used for electric outboard trolling motor. The panels will be mounted at a dock, with the bats on the boat. --- My questions are: Where should I mount the control system or box? Boils down to, is it OK to have the panels wired to the control box and unplug the output leading to the batteries on the boat? Would it be better to unplug the the panels to the control box, which would be mounted on and wired to the bats on the boat? ---- In general, is it OK to short the outputs of a panel, will it hurt the panels? Is it OK to leave the panels with no connection, or the outputs with no load? These are smaller panels, around one amp per panel, made for a 12 volt system. Thinking about six in parallel. TNX

Put the charger with the batteries, and disconnect the solar from the chargers. This allows the charger to be properly loaded.

If the battery is disconnected the charger has no way to regulate the voltage from the solar panels and can be damaged.
