Convert grid system to off-grid during powerouts?

We do have a 20KW Generac backup generator for the house that runs on propane but it kills me that every time Edison decides to turn off power because of high winds I can't generate my own power. Good point on not worrying about the business during extreme situations .

To avoid confusion, the ~$10K cost for home batteries mentioned in previous posts is only for 5KW. So, if you need to replace 20KW generator with home batteries then you will need to 4x the cost at a minimum. I feel your frustration but a generator is something you will need even with home batteries since solar is not a reliable power source.
