Here's an interesting article about the breakdown of input costs to residential solar. Apparently equipment costs have dropped dramatically, but sales/marketing and customer acquisitions have risen. I guess this makes sense that solar vendors are using referrals and freebies to close a deal and gets reabsorbed into the total charge. When I signed my solar contract in April 2017, I paid $3.23 per watt on a 4.8kWh system but they threw in a new sub panel and a 50ft run with new 60A EV charging receptacle. It seemed that my contractor was pretty set on the final price and didn't mind throwing in the extras.
