    Water Pumping Demo

    Hello,

I was at a folk festival this summer and I saw a solar demonstration taking place. They had a solar panel connected to what looked like a copper tube. The copper tube was standing upright in a bucket of water. When the sun was out the contraption would act as a fountain. Does anybody know how or why this works? I want to do it on a smaller scale for an inside waterpump/fountain.

Maybe I'm wrong but it sounds like they were doing by thermal means. Think of the same way a coffee pot works.

That is very odd in deed. Are you certain there wasn't an (in line) water pump they were showing off that was in side of the tube or connected to it at the bottom?
But what if you use 12% and only get 8% energy return not filling a battery completely off the solar array- is this considered a cycle? Mmmmmmm mauh brain's sizzling

Definitely need more information. Based on what you have, there are many, many ways to achieve this, some simple, some complicated. I believe it may have worked by capillary action. It depends on how thin the tube was.
