I found out that in Oregon and Washington, the minimum TSRF (Total Solar Resource Fraction) is 75%, required by solar incentive programs.

I was wondering what is the minimum value for TSRF (Total Solar Resource Fraction) in some other USA states?

That's a nice #, but, at least as far as I know, most other authorities stupping money for solar don't use it. More solar arrays would be more cost effective if more rebating agencies used similar criteria.

As used, it seems it's actually a way to restrict array orientation(s) to those orientations that have a better chance of getting close to making some economic sense.

Equator facing, tilted at close to local latitude is usually a good first approx. for a good orientation.

FWIW, Seems a good way to protect solar ignorant potential users from being quite so screwed by unscrupulous vendors.

I know - big gov. getting in the way of people's right to do what they want - big brother stomping on my rights to do stupid stuff.

So be it. Do dumb stuff all you want - just don't expect some gov. tit to sanction it by using more public money for bad designs that perform poorly due to insanely stupid orientations.

I grew up there - the big cities on the coast side of the mountains make certain the state is always on the loony left side of everything - as far as is possible! This is one of the few times there seems to be any practical thought used.

Seems to me OR & WA are two of those half red/half blue states. I prefer the eastern half for the weather and the topography, but really like the Columbia River/gorge area for the beauty.

Sort of related... California's Solar Rights Act prevents an HOA from requiring changes to an installation that would reduce the efficiency by more than 10%.

Not sure, but they seemed friendly enough to speak with, whatever their political stripe. Maybe/partly because I usually avoid politics, religion & sex in early stages of easy/casual conversations.

I'll add a couple of those in Oregon to my list for when I retire and the wife and I take off in my RV.

For my part, you're welcome. Meant as friendly suggestion: Buy a book on residential energy conservation and solar. You will not regret it. Do that and I bet you'll also find out why the 75% rule makes a lot of sense.
