Huffing has been around for years and yeah those labels are stupid. then I saw them on canned air ... even more stupid. one reason kids today have so many damn health problems is that they are not exposed to near the **** we were. we build tolerances, they get sick the world is going to hell in a handbasketComment

No. But they abounded in the house I was raised in, as did asbestos, and I too played with the Hg. Also, DDT and or some insecticide was sprayed on the trees all over town every year and we all ran under the spray as it floated down.
All that is part of the reasoning for my skepticism of well intentioned (??) bureaucrats and others telling me I'll die of something - to which I reply with a big "NO **** - REALLY. ??!!"

Me, too. Had some from a broken thermometer. It was very cool. I let it roll around in my palm a few times.
Leaded gasoline was probably a bigger problem. See http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-27067615Comment

http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa022848 say that first little bit of lead exposure costs an IQ point or two
Beyond lead paint, every now and then I still find lead wheel balancing weights on the street, and I work near a lead battery recycling plant that had to close recently because of widespread contamination. It's enough of a problem nationwide that doctors are supposed to screen all children at least once for lead exposure: http://pediatrics.aappublications.or...16/4/1036.full
When I chose solar panels for my house, I went with lead-free, cadmium-free ones -- not that they're going to cause problems in my lifetime, but when they do finally get scrapped, it's nice to know they won't be contributing to the problem.Comment

We just bought 35 of these LED flood lights at Costco, since they are on sale. The FEIT BR40. They give 66 lumens / watt (1065 lumens, 16W).
We only need the dimmable function for about 6 of the bulbs, but they seemed like a pretty good deal given the sale. Comes out to about $12/bulb. Thoughts?Comment

My son who is 2 years old broke one of our CFL's a couple of weeks ago. It was a big one, too, a 200W replacement bulb. After looking into it more, looks like I could have handled it better. I did use a vacuum, which evidently is a bad idea since it can help vaporize the mercury. I did not realize that at the time, however. Here is an article providing some reassurance, however:
Evidently the mercury dose from a broken CFL is similar to a meal of tuna.Comment
