    hot water storage tank

Hello to all, I have a closed loop Solar setup not yet installed My question is about the storage of hot water And if this can be done Instead of building my own storage tank Old hot tubs are free for the hauling What take very little money The close up the old holes in the tub with fiberglass. So will this work As a hot water storage tank? Thank you very much

Is this for domestic hot water (DHW) or a solar space heating system?

If for DHW, there are limits on what you can do in a system for potable water.
If you are looking for heat storage for a space heating system, you could probably do it, but hot tubs are not designed for particularly hot water and are not even as well insulated as a typical water heater tank. It also could not be used in a pressurized system, and only with careful design and placement in a drainback system.

Collecting old hot water heaters and insulating them may be of interest. You should hydro test them (old tanks) before use though.

Thank you gentlemen, this is for a non pressure water system, the solar panels or closed loop system I have a hundred fifty feet of copper pipe to form into a transfer coil closed system. then 300 feet of PEX 1 inch pipe for the domestic side of the hot water. I've read a lot about people building a simple wooden box Insulating it Then using rubber roofing material The water prove it I was just hoping I could use old hot tub and re insulate outside Skip building wooden box And buying rubber roofing material Hot tubs are free for the hauling
and sometimes will be paid to remove them. I appreciate your time gentlemen!

The hot tub will take up more space for its capacity in gallons than a tank, but if you have the room to spare, that will not matter. Just make sure that the fiberglass can take the maximum temperature that you will be producing.

You also need to be careful that no chemicals have leached into the fiberglass spa from previous owners. The high temperatures may draw anything out again.

Check out American Solartechnics, the offer "soft tanks" and hard tanks. I am not sure it they are setup for potable water but its worth checking.

Thanks to all the replies I appreciate them all!
peakbagger thank you for the website that's exactly what I'm looking for I think their tanks for work out nicely. As to the question about chemicals leaching out from the old hot tub, I have not used one for hot water storage reason for my question but I have used them for fish tanks and they worked out very well and one of the hot tubs I use for a fish tank tank from a motel and I know for a fact they poured lots of chemicals in that tub but used it only for cold water. thanks again for all the information.

If fish live than a collector and heat exchanger will also live
I would perhaps insulate a bit more.
