1) Depends on how much air flow you force through - you really just want the air slowly drifting through
2) Insulated?[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Comment

You could always just put the soda cans inside the aluminum tubing to slow the flow of air and add some turbulence and mass. You don't even need to glue them together.

1) Cans or flex aluminum hose would be similar in that regard. You just want turbulent flow through the unit - bends would provide that. Cans often have he ends opened in a manner to impart turbulence to the air flow.
2) Insulate the sides and back of the box - better to use a single layer of glass on the front side. Double pane glass has the common name of "insulated" windows. On the sunny side just worry about solar gain.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Comment

One glass 5.7 W / (m2K) m2=square meter K= kelvin degrees. How much heat moves through.
Two glass 2.8 W / (m2K)

Many other factors such as type of glass, gas fill for the insulating gap - commercial units such as water panels all use single pane low iron glass - that would be the best here as well. Those guys have done a lot of study on the topic i expect.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Comment
