  • insulation for back of active panel heater

I have a system that was installed in the Carter administration that I've been maintaining. Last summer I decided to brace the back of the three roughly 4'x8' panels with some blue board and 2x4's since the original insulation board had bowed badly. It was not until after I finished that I thought about the heat rating and what might happen. I left it over the summer and when I checked a few weeks ago - you guessed it, the blue board had melted. Question: Will isocyanurate board work for this?

    Yes and very well
Buy the type with at least one foil face and use the foil face toward the absorber

Most of the panels use Isocyanurate with foil facings. Some times when the glazing leaks and the panels fill with fog I have seen older panels have issues with foam expanding but given they are 30 plus years old (carter adminsitration), if they work, having to replace some foam on occasion is a good investment for panels that probably have paid for themselves several times over.
