In the Philippines, to bring sustainable lighting to homes in impoverished communities,
empty plastic bottles are being installed in ceilings.
Filled with water and bleach, they refract sunlight,
and provide light equivalent to a 55watt light bulb.

They used to do the same thing with glass prisms in the decks of sailing ships to provide some light to the spaces below decks, while keeping it strong and watertight. Just don't use biodegradable plastic bottles.Leave a comment:
