  • what's wrong my solar panel and lantern

I have a solar lantern with separated 1.5W solar panel and 2.5W solar panel.
First, The 1.5W solar panel can charge the solar lantern. However the 2.5W solar panel can't.
The specification of solar lantern with 1.5W solar panel as below:
1.Solar Panel: 1.5W/5V Poly Solar Panel
2.Battery: 3.7V/2200mAh Li Battery 3.Light source: 1W x 1 piece super high brightness white LED
4.Hours of light with full battery:
    4 settings for light: I/II/III/IIII
    - I: at least 16 hours
    - II: at least 10 hours
    - III: at least 6 hours
    -IIII: at least 60 hours
    5. Input : Sunlight or DC
6.Output : Can charge mobile phone by USB

I had it charged under plenty of sunlight (since its summer in the
philippines) but it is not charging as the red light indicator is always
blinking and there is no change of color from red to yellow or green.
    so we
had it charged with the 1.5w as we were able to charge the lantern using the
1.5w before but right now we cannot charge it even with the 1.5w panel.

Please tell me the reason why the solar panel damaged.

    1. Battery may be bad. If the voltage of the battery ever goes too low (somewhere between 3.3 volts and 3.0 volts depending on the battery type) it can never be recharged again and the voltage will never come up. This can cause error light indication.
    2. panels may be broken. Look for cracks or discoloration. Are they mounted in a way which could be bent or hit by something?
    3. some inexpensive panels just do not last very long if exposed to sunlight and weather for awhile. How long have you had the lantern and now long has it been working?
    4. The charging circuit may be bad.
    5. If your Li battery is an 18650 type, a failure of the charging circuit can cause it to steam or flame, so be careful. If it is a Lithium Iron Phosphate battery overcharging will be less violent.
