    Horizontal or vertical strings?

Viewed from above, my home is T-shaped and my PV panel array is a 4x4 grid (16 panels) on one side of the vertical arm in my letter T. The sun passes over from top right to bottom left meaning that early in the day I get shading on the panels closest to the horizontal part of the T and just before sunset the entire roof is in shadow for most of the year

The panels have bypass diodes and have been connected by the installer as two serial strings of eight panels each; the upper two rows as one string and the lower two rows as the second string. The inverter is a Sunnyboy 3800.

I write this post before the electrician arrives and before the scaffolding is taken down to check whether two horizontal strings is correct or whether two vertical strings would be better?

The installer did horizontal strings "because that's what I do" and not because he actually knew whether horizontal or vertical was best. Other posts on web forums indicate that by chance he did the right thing but I'd like to be absolutely sure!

    Many thanks,
    WU

Okay - knocked up in the time since asked-for!

The panels are currently wired in series as the red string and the black string in my diagram. What I's like to know is whether they would be better as a left-hand pair and a right-hand pair instead. I am in the Midlands, UK. Nearest city Birmingham.

      Thanks.

i would see no difference unless the other roof is extremely steep and towers above the roof the modules are mounted on.
But with a southeast exposure this would be minimal and only impact very early morning when there isn't much to be harvested anyway.

Many thanks - The other roof is of identical pitch and the same ridge height so I am now officially reassured.
