Hello. So we just got an inground pool a few months ago. We have a heater but it’s gas. The pump is variable speed and we don’t keep it in all the time. Looking at our bills would solar make sense> thank you very much for any help.

The first step is make measurements and see how/by what those kWh are being
consumed. If you have time-of-day rates, find which time too.
Knowing the use, then look at what you can do about it, and time if that matters.
Pool pumps can be big energy users. If yours is, look into finding a pump that
can be directly powered from your solar system. Of course it will only run when

Your electric bill is ridiculous because your usage is ridiculous.
Your average per kWh rate isn't that bad relative to other areas of the country.
My per kWh rate is about 2X yours but my usage before alternate energy reductions is about 1/4 yours or about 6,800 kWh/year ~ = 565 kWh/month average on a 3,200 ft.^2 home is a warm to hot climate. But all that usage is paid for by the PV system generation that's been on my roof for 13 years and a solar thermal water heater that's been on the same roof for almost 20 years.
My close to zero energy bills would not have been entirely covered by alternate energy without a lot of conservation efforts that lowered the billable kWh load.
Your best shot at a lower bill lies in conservation efforts.

so i got an interesting quote today from slomins the local oil company - they will install about 56 cw 460 panels, with emphase equipment for ZERO out of pocket to me- they will install, maintain, monitor the panels - my cost will be 10 cents per kwh that i use. i don't know what happens if i produce excess power... here on long island the kwh is i think 23cents or higher, i of course i will be respon for the 60c a day line charge, but this deal seems to good to be true- my average bill is aroun 450bucks a month - the 56 panels is a bit of overkill, but i do have some shade , which will kill about 15pct of the power...

indeed... thats why i asked on this forum ... the salesman said they make their $$$ after about 5 years- it cost them X amount of $$$ to install, and after maybe 5 or 6 year of me paying the 10cents a kwh , the install is paid, and its like an annuity for slomins... i have to investigate this today...Comment
