I have some questions regarding my solar panels and equipment as well as what i need to get moving.
My background: I work for a government contractor, my job is maintaining solar sites on a government installation. Maintaining doesn't need me to have any knowledge at all of whats actually going on tho.
One day i got an order to take down several sites (unneeded) and dispose of everything at the hazmat yard. I purchased the solar panels on the cheap and now have a handful of panels. A analog gage, battery, inverter and solar saver 10 controller.
Lots of ideas going on in my head what i could do with them but first i need a crash coarse in how to get the specs i need to configure it. I remember all the cables went into a box with a lot of diodes and round things. Some stuff with heat sinks on them. Im assuming i don't need that box seeing i have a new solar controller. My job was simply to use a multimeter to check for voltages and to make sure it was charging and the battery CCA was in good shape.
I currently have 2 panels hooked together and i get around 17 volts I figured out a way to hook it to the gages to show amps but i dont think i did it right (shows low amps). Its all hooked to the solar controller with the battery and no load devices. I have checked and the battery is topped off nice. Im not planning on using batteries.
My ultimate goal? To slow my meter more and more as i add panels and wind energy.
So if your on board where do we start?
