Only owned pv systems were evaluated:

"It uses appraisal methods to evaluate sales price premiums for owned PV systems on single-unit detached houses that were also evaluated in a large statistical study. Independent appraisers evaluated 43 recent home sales pairs in six states: California, Oregon, Florida, Maryland, North
    Carolina, and Pennsylvania."

I was commenting on your statement :

"Also, it makes sense that a purchased system will have a higher likelihood of adding resale value than a leased one."

Butch, thanks. I meant to respond to your previous statement:

    "Were they leased?"

Ah, looks like you were responding to littleharbor's comment.

You'll be lucky if an appraiser gives you even 25% of that.

I got zero increased value at my appraisal. I did a refi from a 30 to a 15 year loan to drop from 5% to 3%. The appraiser noted the solar panels but said their value was questionable so he would not assign any value. I complained but other appraisers agreed with him. My $18,000 system was two months old at the time, paid for in full and I had a grandfathered contract with the SRP that is transferable to any owner of my property for 20 years. Anyone could do the math and understand the $1300-$1500 savings per year. I had enough equity so I didn't not fight them further. My panels are all on the rear of the home on a single slope and most people never even know they are there. They are also HOA approved. Cosmetics was not the issue.
