Obviously, but in that scenario, this entire thread becomes irrelevant. Instead of a post in a message board, it becomes a conversation with your financial advisor.
And if I'm your FA, even with the cash, I'm telling you to invest your cash in something else and take out a HELOC or cash out refinance, because given the numbers I posted, you'll be money WAY ahead to put your $36k into a mutual fund, finance the solar into a mortgage, make a 5+% return on BORROWED money, AND increase that return by writing your interest paid off from your taxes.

This is, in one universe, the stuff of process economics, the time value of money, life cycle costing and other things most folks don't know or care to know about, and can be as complicated or as simple as the person paying that bills cares to make it. Pay your money, take your choice.
