I called SMA and they wouldn't give me any advice on this.
I have a customer with an SMA inverter that is located in his garage and we are trying to hook up the webconnect module for online data reporting. we tried one of those ethernet extenders that sends the data through the power lines. we have used them in other systems and they work great. however it's not working in this system. I think it is because the garage is not on a subpanel from the main house. it is on a completely separate line coming from the meter.
we cant hardwire becuase the garage is detached and we'd have to bury a cable and the customer doesn't want to do that. so my next option is wireless. has anyone ever tried using a wifi extender to do data reporting? I see one on amazon that has an ethernet port on it. if I could plug into that my problem would be solved. but SMA wouldn't tell me if it would work or not.
