But if he produced more power, he would draw less from the grid. Drawing less from the grid means less C02 from a power plant.

That would depend on how the grid power is being generated. If it is from Hydro or Nuclear then there is relatively no CO2 being produced. Even if it is from a gas plant the amount of CO2 emitted might be equal or less than what the trees could absorb.
I have no issue with trees being removed to improve the performance of a solar pv system, although IMO removing a large area of trees to install a large pv array seems counter productive to the green movement. Which I do not really care about or follow.Comment

Initial analysis complete. I used values form unshaded panels where I could, and extrapolated where I couldn't. Comparison graph attached. Based on the small area between the actual and theoretical lines, I don't think additional tree work is justified for the small increase in production for this time of the year. I will need to revisit this in the fall when the sun is lower.You do not have permission to view this gallery.
