Hi there. Are 48v panels only for tied into the grid systems? I'm looking at two 200w 48v panels for a very small off grid building and was wondering if they would be suitable for that type of use. If so would 4 12v batteries be used or special batteries be needed? Many thanks

Depends on the battery voltage and most importantly the type of charge controller you use.
One example is the least expensive route of using a PWM series type charge controller on a 12 volt battery system. You can only use a panel made for 12 volt systems which actually operates at 17 to 18 volts.
With MPPT charge controllers that bond is broken. Depending on the make and model you can run panel voltage up to around 150 volts and operate any battery voltage you want of 12, 24, 36, 48, 60 volts.MSEE, PE -
Lemme hear em. I have the Steelers winning 24 to 13...as much as I hate the Steelers. Depends on the battery voltage and most importantly the type of charge controller you use.Comment
