tempered glass 1/8" thick vs. 1/4" thick for South Carolina

Hi I tried searching but did not find what I was looking for.
I live in South Carolina, near Charlotte, NC and we get maybe one hail storm every couple of years. I've lived here 10 years and I've never had a window break from a hail storm.

Which raises the issue is 1/4" glass for my area really needed. Everyone recommends it, but it seems to be over kills for where I live. We don't get snow very often and when it does snow it melts within 5 or 6 hours typically.

Anyone actually use 1/8" tempered glass and been happy? Disappointed?

Welcome

Hail seldom hits vertical window panes. When soar panels are at a 20* angle, they will receive more impact.

Maybe try looking at some commercial panels in the dimensions you are considering, and see what thickness of glass they use? They have done loads of research to not use any thicker glass than they need to.
