    Bus wire

I'm planning on making a solar panel and I have the tabbing figured out. I saw on one video i thought they said the positive and negative weren't supposed to touch, but on another one the bus wire at opposite ends created a connection, so I guess it doesn't matter. What is the bus wire even for? I could understand to make a connection for a wire to the charge controller. What is the difference between the positive and negative being connected at the bus wire or not?

The buss wire carries the main current from the cells, since the metal layer on the cell, is too thin to carry all the current.

Depending on how you chose to wire, for high voltage, or high amps, you connect the cells differently.

I can't give you a class on building a panel here.

Well that is called a dead bolted fault or Short Circuit.

Short Circuit = Let the Magic Smoke Out and start fire.

The good news is it is fine to short out a solar panel, in fact it is a test condition called the Isc test and spec. Bad news is if left it makes the panel worthless, and if connected with other panels makes them worthless too and might very well let the smoke out and start a fire if the wring cannot handle the fault current.
