Volts and amps out of solar panels

Hi all, I have been reading this thread and it brings me to my question.
I had some home panels running this summer and my voltage and amps did something
    I didnot understand.
Panels 4 set with two sets in parallel (sp) then the two in series.
These cells are 3 quarters of a full cell 6 x 6 in or such I bought broken ones.
Set A of panels 1 and 2 (24 cells each) in parallel 12 volts each .
Set B of panels 2 and 3 (24 cells each) in parallel 12 volts each.
A and B sets in series.
I put a volt meter on Beg A and at the end of B for total voltage.
I also put a amp meter at the end of B.
I connected beg A and end of B to a small grid tie inverter with I think auto something
like to get the most out if the panels. Mmtp ?? I looked but can not put my hands on the paper work right now.
Voltage starts out over 24 or more volts most time up to 28 v.
The amps starts out very low and works up to 11.5 amps.
As the amps move up the voltage goes down and hangs around 15 -16 v for a while
then settles at 13.5 v ar so. So I get 11.5 amps at 13.5v../
Does this auto thing in the small grid tie inverter do it.??
The inverter is 10.8 -30 v input and 110 ac output , 300 watt max out.
Why does it sink to 13 volts...?
I have these 12 volt panels..
I have just been wondering why.

      Thanks jason, no problem.
I never put the panels on any building.
And I realized that I should and will get an approved inverter for insurance and the power co.
I was using a Sun 300 and the letters were MPPT for max power point tracking.
Since this is my science project for the year, I just trying to figure out what was happening.
There is probably a thread about this but as of now I haven't run on to it.
There is no rush on this since I put everything away for winter.
