Yes, they work well. On cloudy days, you can get some choppiness in the calculated gross consumption reported in the 5 minute intervals, but the daily gross consumption averages most of that out and should be reasonably accurate.

Just a quick tip. To calculate net consumption on PVO, you need to donate..... about $8/year tp PVOutput... well worth it. Everything else should be no cost. To second Sensi's comment, Eagle+Wattvision+PVO+enphase = just what you want. Generation and Consumption in net terms.http://pvoutput.org/list.jsp?userid=27957Comment

I just had my 7.4kW Enphase system installed in SoCal. The system included the Envoy to do the monitoring through myEnlighten. I was surprised to see that you can't see your electricity usage to compare it to your solar generation. It appears my SCE smart meter has the option to use Zigbee to communicate with a monitoring device. Has anyone used the Enphase Zigbee USB adapter with the Envoy to monitor energy usage?
The only other option I have seen is to buy the Rainforest devices and ultimately aggregate the data over to pvoutput.org.
Any help is appreciated.Comment

I sent my installer the quote and the question. He asked someone he knows at Enphase. Here is what he got back. Not sure it helps, but I tried.Regarding consumptions monitoring... we now have this as a feature with our AC Combiner box.My research shows the Enphase Stick only works with an Enphase version of the GE i210 RGM. Doesnt look like its intended to be a commodity item and work with many of the Smart Meters in our area. In fact, the installation video shows it being used in conjunction with the Utility's meter.
Enlighten is now capable of showing both aggregate consumption and production.
It would be interesting to see what Enlighten provides regarding consumption and see if there are any big benefits that PVoutput doesnt provide. I kinda doubt it. PVoutput is very good at providing generation and consumption data along with TOU analysis and cost and generation revenue.
Get an Eagle and use PVOutput. Your outlay is no more than $120. The Enphase solution looks to be $500 with the meter and stick, and then installation costs if you aren't comfortable or qualified to install the meter yourself.
I will say my installer did lodge a dissatisfaction report with Enphase and its customer support capabilities for both consumers and installers.http://pvoutput.org/list.jsp?userid=27957Comment
