have never found a stud finder I like ... I have several. They are all a waste of money in my book
Then I found a very simple solution that works every time - neodymium magnets
Just slide them over the wall and they practically jump out of your hand to stick to the drywall screws. Costs les than $5. Takes a few seconds to use. No batteries required. Works every time.

I can see those working really well on drywall screws. Trying to find which nails hold the sheathing to the rafters vs the nails holding down the shingles to the deck not so much. The nails you need to find will be the deepest, the shingle nails will be easier.
