Solar System for Pool Pump - Is it worth it???

I can't afford a solar system for my whole house and don't want to finance/lease one.

The 2nd largest user of electricity is my pool pump. Is it worth getting a small system to run just my pool pump??

1. Can the pump be run completely on solar without batteries??
2. How large of a system do I need?? and what do I need... How many panels, inverters etc... Pump is 2HP, 120V.

I think this topic has been discussed many times but in different contexts in a different forum ( http://www.solarpaneltalk.com/forumd...ter-pumps-(DC) ). The short answer is it's not easy and probably not economical. People who go to that route normally has no grid access. There're better ways to save on pool circulation like a variable pool pump or pool cover etc. that are much cheaper and easier to implement.

go with a Variable pump - The pool pump now only adds about $20 to my electric bill. I got the pump for $860, Edison gave $200 rebate, and I was able to claim it on my taxes - It will pay for itself in 2 years or less.
