• Diodes?

i read a little bit about them and the onlything i can find out if they are used in solar panels to keep the energy from flowing back into them during night and wasting energy is that pretty much the only reason they are on panels? also do they put diodes on both the + and -?

diodes are used for 2 reasons in PV panels.

    1) Bypass, in case the panel gets shaded, there are often several segments with bypass diodes to allow array current to flow, or else 1 shaded panel can kill a whole array.

    2) Nighttime reverse current Blocking. To keep the batteries from draining into a dark panel. Most charge controllers prevent this from happening too.
