Roof inspection in conjunction with solar install

It was mentioned in this forum that a roof inspection and service is a good idea in conjunction with the solar installation. I'm wondering if anyone has had a roof inspector come out to do an inspection and service prior to solar installation and then have the roof inspector come again following the solar installation.

Beyond doing research to find a solid installer, I'm thinking this is the only way for me to independently verify that the system was installed correctly is to have another contractor look at it. Thoughts?

My roof is at end of life, and will be replaced as part of the solar installation. There are installers qualified to do both, and by coordinating the work, I believe it may be possible to get a more reliable installation that it would be with the work done independently. Your work permit will detail exactly how the attachment should be done, so whether you hire a 3rd party inspector or you examine it yourself, there is at least a description on paper of what it is supposed to look like.

I had a professional pre and post installation inspection done on my roof. I was recovering from a nasty accident and could not go up on the roof myself. Only cost me $85.00.

        Since you ask for thoughts:

I too knew my roof needed service. Not being a roofer and so mostly ignorant of the gory details/pitfalls/things my mother never told me about such things, I paid (intentionally) to have 2 separate thorough inspections by roofers recommended by the contractor who has done 5 major (ongoing) remodels to portions of my house. Those roofers are 2 of his subs. He happened to be in the house remodeling a bedroom suite at the time of the solar work. I sort of came out of retirement and treated the solar job as a busman's holiday and acted as my own project mgr. The chosen roofer coordinated with the solar contractor and things worked out better than I had hoped (I think). Also, as it turns out, my chosen roofer is also one of the roofing subs for a major local solar vendor, but not the solar vendor I used. Anything can happen, but I think we all did our best to get a fit for purpose, leak proof job. I have to say being involved and keeping a sharp eye on things is also cheap insurance.

That's great, since I'm in San Diego.... Would you PM with roofing inspectors that you went with and also your solar vendor? Can you also tell me about panels/inverters that you went with and the cost? Thanks!

I definitely plan to do pre and post inspections. Photos will help too in case there are any problems.
