    Hi guys,

i really need help as a newbie with solar power im not sure which way to go. I wanted a gird tie system but for some reason here in the UK solar power is very expensive, even a basic 1.2kw system is going to cost

What's your end use for the panel ? Camping, backyard projects, go ahead and build one.

Power for your house, or an insured building or grid tie, you need UL/CSA/ABCDEFG approved panels.

I think panels would be great for some outdoor garden lights. The minute you "plug in" for grid tie, or attach panels to your house, you have to meet all sorts of rules, so maybe just a panel, charge controller, battery and 12V LED lights would do the job you need. And it will cost you a lot of money.
