I just recently learned about this device from this forum and it seems pretty cool, I love all the data stuff so it seems it's something I would like.
Looking at their online store, it seems there are a few different options. What do people here have? Is the 5000-G good enough or should the optional wireless display also be purchased? They also have kits with 2 sets of clamps, I assume one would go on the house wires and the other on the solar wires but if your system includes monitoring, is there a point to having a set connected to the solar end?

Wireless display is optional. There are smart phone apps that can do the same thing. I recommend getting the two MTUs and CTs (clamps) so that you can in one system monitor usage and generation. Also the TED configured this way will be monitoring actual AC generation and simple math can get you consumption. Sure my inverter does but it doesn't record it or post it so I can see my past 24 hours production if I go to the inverter. With two MTUs on my TED, I get nice graphs and monitoring of my production and consumption from any place, comparisons to PVWatts predictions, comparisons to similar (or dissimilar if you like) systems as well.

You could pay for PV system monitoring to have the "from any place" and historical parts but you still wouldn't have your consumption together with it.

I'm looking at your account, crazy how much data is shown, every 5 minutes. I guess it would be nice to see the generated power on the same graph as the usage power, even though the SolarEdge system comes with monitoring included.

Re: TED...

It looks like TED uses Powerline for its data communications. My Sunpower monitoring already uses Powerline. Can I connect TED using its own Powerline adapters as well?

So when looking at your PVOutput account, if it says Power Used 855w and Power Generated 2,176w. then the total power you are using at the specific moment is 3,031w, is that correct? I thought what I was looking at was that you were generating 2,175w, but using only 855w, so you had an excess of 1,321w.

well no. PVOutput wants to see generation and consumption so to set up your TED system there, you put in your MTU ID for generation but for consumption you put in the ID of both MTUs added together. At least for a configuration like mine where the solar feeds into a breaker in the main panel. This converts the NET power to consumed power.
The TED still reports NET which is what your electric bill will reflect.

if PVOutput has "Power Used 855w and Power Generated 2,176w" then those are the values. At that moment (5 minutes posting actually for pvoutput, my house was using 855W and generating 2.176kW.

I see, so PVOutput already does all the figuring out. So for the day, you have generated 8.461kWh and used 15.675kWh, leaving a net of 7.214kWh that you have to pay the electric company for, right?

Also, is the smart phone app pretty instant in showing changes? The demo video from TED showed the optional display to be pretty quick, they would turn on a light switch and a couple second later see instantly what affect that had on power usage and cost. Does the app work the same way?

There are several TED applications that read it directly and they are pretty quick. I have the display and it is slightly faster.

I have used the TED-O-Meter one. Like the display these apps only work on the same LAN as the other equipment, and are really quick.

PVOUTPUT is every 5 minutes with a lag on its display.
