As was previously posted here there is not too much information on Amergy Solar. They are still being evaluated by the BBB because they are a fairly new company, only in business since 2009.

Not too much to go on to make a decision. As said before…do your homework, do your homework and then do your homework.

Yes, they have. In many states over the last two years. I pay close attention to it and see that the per kWh price in my state of PA has gone down by nearly .02 per kWh since 2011. The consensus really is that electric power prices should be stable for the next few years. The seven years the OP says in the house should stay stable. Their best bet is to go on a conservation tack and to invest wisely to capture returns to pay the electric bill. Everyone can find ways to save power usage. There is no reason to eliminate your electric bill either. You can do a smaller system while conserving and keep funds and costs contained. The only way this all makes sense is due to the legislation from Albany offering the over generous subsidies. What's next in NY state, though? A $6000 rebate for EV purchases like in Colorado? NY has their own budget problems and I didn't see this renewables spend coming. All the while businesses are leaving the state in droves.

          Decreasing Rates?

Ya right, not in my world. At this point I would settle for single digit and non-retroactive increases. Read the articles below.

Which investments were you touting that would generate +11% returns post taxes not called solar? Poor San Diego.

As for the conservation efforts, in the case of this OP I believe he has a lease for much less than their current cost of electricity. Why spend money on conservation when they can lower their bill with no out of pocket expense? As far as SP being more expensive. It is not more expensive. I repeat it is not more costly. A third time SP is cheaper than the other solar panel options when the incentives cover a large portion of the upfront cost. This was the case in CA for the last about two years. This happened in AZ last year. It made going solar make sense in a state where solar doesn't make sense financially. It is happening in CO right now. Please stop giving bad advice. The technology is the same countrywide. The economics of solar range so widely you must geographically qualify any statement made about the financial viability of solar as bonaire has done with his reference to PA rates. However the consensus statement may apply to many areas but certainly not everywhere. Bottom line the OP should get the deal done before the incentives are gone. Go ask Ian in AZ how many he knows that waited and missed the boat in AZ. If you have a generous/wacky incentive plan in your area you ought to explore whether the numbers make sense for you, because when the renewable incentives are offered in your jurisdiction you are paying for them even if you aren't using them.

UPDATE ::!! Ok thanks all for your post and believe I am all done . Contract is signed and ready to move forward . I signed for 36 panels of Sunpowers 335's one 10K inverter , rack syatem for roof all inspections etc for $175 a month fixed rate for 20 year lease . NO money down cutting my Con Ed bill by 55% or more. Actually just got my bill and it went from balanced budget of $317 to $336 so actually saving even more ! I also had 2 other sign up with me and going to recommend a few others once completed. Super happy with my decision as its finally sunny in NY after 3 days of rain storms ! Roof is sunny at 805 am today !! Bring on the SUN ! I will keep everyone update as the process moves forward. NY is a crazy state but installed said its like a 4 month delay now so by September or so i should be good to go . Thanks all for input and advice and as last poster stated people who may wait a bit longer the incentives are going to change and lease rates increase is 100% TRUE !

Wow, you made your first post 6 days ago with little or no knowledge and have already signed a contract!. Sure hope you did your research.
Who did you go with? Kind of odd to make this kind of a major decision so fast. Good luck.

                Bob,
Im retired from an investigative unit from NYPD and sat home for 6 days straight researched and spoke to many installers and a few people who already have systems in NY. I literally spent day and night researching and looking at all angles. To save 55-65% off my bills is good for me plus no money down . So its a no brainer for me plus i'm a corner house no obstructions to south east side of roof. I went with Sea Bright Solar they did a friends house a year ago, and a house around corner from me. Super knowledgable people and has 800 clients in NJ. Spoke to owner directly and been in business for 10 years, so they have been around a long time for a solar company as most of these places have been around for 2 years or less. worked them hard for MY price not their quote and they made it work for me and my friend . How many days do i need to make this decision ?? its either u want to save money or not ! Con Ed just raised my bill starting net month to $336 from $317 so i will be excited not to pay them soon !

Congrats! My Sunpower lease has a table of guaranteed output over the 20 years of the lease. My one-year anniversary is coming up this month and my actual 6.9 kW system production which looks like it will be ~12,400 kWh will handily exceed the lease guaranteed first year production of 11,768 kWh. So far this year, I have built up peak credits of 1000 kWh that will be used to offset summer peak usage. Unfortunately, I will use up those credits probably sometime in August and will have a month or so of positive net peak charges at the $0.24/kWh (plus taxes) rate. Still the annual savings will be substantial: at least $1200 and probably more but I won't really know for sure until December.

You may be able to get a good idea of your actual production using PVWatts calculator. However, their derate factor seems excessive based on my experience. My average derate factor calculated from my actual production over 11 months is 0.887 but you could use a more conservative one of perhaps 0.83-0.85.
