Get a charge controller with an aux output that can be used to start an external charger when battery voltage falls below a setpoint.

The Outback does it all as listed above plus it will even start and stop a generator automatically to charge up the batteries.Comment

A Radian GS8048 will give you 8000 watts split phase, and handles generator start. It gives you two auxiliary outputs that you can use to start chargers, generators etc. The next size down is 4000 wattts (GS4048) but will surge to 6000 watts for 5 seconds.Comment

you would get it with two FXR3048 (sealed) or FXR3648 (vented) inverters.

Other inverter brands also do this. Schneider Conext XW series inverters, 240V split phase, no extra transformer needed, Some (including myself) state the generator support as implemented by the XW, is superior to the outback / radianPowerfab top of pole PV mount (2) | Listeroid 6/1 w/st5 gen head | XW6048 inverter/chgr | Iota 48V/15A charger | Morningstar 60A MPPT | 48V, 800A NiFe Battery (in series)| 15, Evergreen 205w "12V" PV array on pole | Midnight ePanel | Grundfos 10 SO5-9 with 3 wire Franklin Electric motor (1/2hp 240V 1ph ) on a timer for 3 hr noontime run - Runs off PV ||
