    Xantrex Freedom SW3000

I have recently stumbled across a Xantrex Freedom SW3000 for sale by a company who ordered it for a customer than had the customer screw the company over leaving them with a product they probably will not sell. This means they are going to sell this inverter for about 50% off list if I would like it.

Here's the issues that will make the sale for me. Will it run a deep well water pump? Will the company offer me some sort of warranty in the event something happens? Yes. They will refund my money in the event of a problem with the inverter. They can't tell me if it will run a deep well water pump but promised a refund if it does not have the power.

I read the installation manual and it can be wired either split phase input or single phase input. It then has "dual output". Each line is 120vac on the dual output. I am confused on what dual 120vac output is. Does this mean I can run a well?

*I know I know...12v is for toys....but that's how I started so all my DC wiring is already set up to handle the amperage required for this 12vdc huge inverter/charger*

You need to provide your pump specs to get a decent answer.

I don't have access to the well at this time. While I am concerned with the capacity of the inverter, I am really more concerned with the electrical term "split phase" and "dual output". He said I can try out the inverter and see if it has the capacity to drive the pump so I am not worried on that aspect, I am concerned about the 120/240v wiring aspect. In other words can I wire up a 3/4hp well to the inverters "dual output"?

If, as is likely, the pump motor is designed for 240 volt input, then the Xantrex alone cannot drive the pump. Its output is only 120 volt, single phase.
You can use an autotransformer to convert the 120 volts to 240 volts with reasonable cost and efficiency, and Xantrex states in their manual that the 3000 watt inverter should be able to handle the starting surge of up to a 1 HP motor. But, as always, your results may vary. (YRMV).

If you go to the Xantrex webesite http://www.xantrex.com/power-products/inverter-chargers/freedom-sw-3000.aspx, you can download the owners manual, installation manual, and other papers.

It states very unequivocally in the installation manual that it can only drive 120 volt loads.

What the dual input/output feature gives you is this:

If you have 120/240 mains (or generator) power, you can wire up both the L1 and L2 AC leads (opposite phase 120 volt to Neutral) to the input and a 120/240 volt distribution panel to the L1 and L2 outputs. Then when the inverter kicks in you can still drive 120 volt loads on both sides of the distribution panel bus. But any 240 volts connected load will see zero volts instead.

Thank you. That clears things up. I suspected that is what "dual output" ment but the split phase input was getting me confused. I guess they stepped it down due to its intended mobile application.

I hate to renew an old thread like this but on the off chance this sw3000 is still with the company I thought I would ask. I noticed you found a company with this inverter and it wouldn't work for you. Any chance you can share the company contact and I will ask them if they still have it(doubtful I know). Thanks. Are they in the US?
