My SMA Sunny Boy string inverter shows error code 3501 every time it rains, which means that there is a ground fault in the PV array. After a while things dry up and normal function resumes. Where is the most likely location for water to cause this problem?

inetdog, thanks for your reply. I actually have 2 inverters serving 2 separate arrays. Today, for the first time, the previously unaffected system is showing the same ground fault. Does this imply that the location of the problem is in a component that the 2 systems share, such as junction boxes or conduit?Comment

Just as likely, IMHO, is that the failure is the result of improper design or installation and is now occurring separately in the second system.SunnyBoy 3000 US, 18 BP Solar 175B panels.Comment
