SolarEdge SE6000A-US inverter for a 7.5kw solar installation

Hello,

I have been recommended a SE6000A single phase inverter for a 7.5kw panel system. I am admittedly a newbie, but not sure if that suffices for such a system size. Thoughts?

7500 / 6000 = 1.25. At that ratio, you probably aren't going to lose much to clipping, but it depends somewhat on your location and orientation of the panels. You can use PVWatts to take a stab at what clipping loss would be in a typical year. Use "premium" panels, 8% loss. In the advanced parameters, set the DC-AC ratio to 1.25 to see what the 6000 W inverter might produce and then run the model again with the ratio at 1.0 to see what a larger inverter would produce. The difference is the amount of energy clipped. Here in San Diego, if that system were south facing with 20-30 deg tilt, I would expect to see clipping on clear, cool days from late February through early June. The amount of energy lost might be around 1%.

Keep in mind that year to year weather variations may increase or decrease clipping in any given year. Also, over time, as the panels foul / degrade their peak power will drop and the amount of clipping will tend to decrease.

It can handle 8.1kw. You can go 135% over the rating with inverters

If your 7.5kW array involves more than one panel orientation so that the two groups are not producing peak power at the same time, then a smaller inverter is indeed the best choice.
SunnyBoy inverters have dual MPPT inputs and their new versions (only recently available in 5kW and 6kW sizes) now have three MPPT inputs.
