While I sit impatiently 2 weeks into the permitting process, I'm thinking ahead to the panel monitoring & the Solaredge inverter. It needs an internet connection to get to the online portal. (I'll skip the rant here about how practically every house now days has wi-fi and Solaredge does not) There are few options, hard wired LAN, and "Zigbee" wireless being the most practical. The Zigbee is hundreds of dollars, hardwired is not really an option in my case given the house layout. I did see mention on the net about using one of those AC house wire LAN adaptors, might work, I dunno.
Out in my garage about 3 feet from where the inverter will go, I have a TV with a U-Verse wireless receiver. (Works awesome BTW). The receiver has an Ethernet port so it can be used as a hardwired set top box if needed. I got to thinking maybe that port could also be a wireless LAN access point. ATT does not address this.
I took my laptop out to the garage and disabled the internal wireless adaptor. Tried to get online & got the "no connection" error. Hooked up a cable to the ATT box & hit refresh... bingo. Did it several times to be sure.
Interestingly, my home wi-fi network needs a password to connect, this way doesn't... just plug & play. The ATT box doesn't even have to be turned on.
So one of my problems is solved, now if I only had a solar system...
